This show focuses on the earliest years of Sorolla’s artistic career, just before he left for Rome at just 21 years old, thanks to the success of El grito del Palleter (The Cry of the Palleter). On a journey through paintings, watercolors, drawings and photographs, we take an analytic look at his career and artistic training from 1878 to 1884, a period in the artist’s work that is relatively unknown and rarely studied. Sorolla. Origins marks the beginning of the 2023 exhibition program celebrating the 100-year anniversary of the death of Joaquín Sorolla.
