Sorolla, Traveling to Paint
The commemoration of the centenary of the death of Joaquín Sorolla Bastida (1863-1923) now focuses on travel and on outdoor painting, the driving force behind all his travels. Sorolla toured a total of fifty-four Spanish and seventeen foreign cities, standing apart his two tours of the United States. In this way, the painter forged an independent and cosmopolitan lifestyle through the progress he always championed. The protagonists of the exhibition are the territory, nature, the sea, the mountains, the atmospheric effects, Spanish nature and monuments, where Sorolla composes with an intimate look his other vision of that Spain that he so unusually traveled and represented. Audioguiarte has produced the audio content and supplies the audioguide devices.
Inauguration tours with PWA
The Bucarelli Palace inaugurates its tours with audio guide to enjoy its historical content. There are two tours, a general one that shows the street plan, and a complete one that covers the first floor. Both tours are available in three languages with performances by various actors. These entertaining tours chronicle the adventures of the Bucarelli family ancestors and dramatize conversations from historical figures to contextualize the visit. Audioguiarte has managed the production of audio content and provided multimedia devices. In addition, Audioguiarte has innovated by offering a personalized PWA as a support to listen to the itinerary. The PWA (progressive web application) technology gives access to the content in an agile and simple way on the visitor’s own device or in a multimedia audio guide. It is delivered through a website and is intended to work in any browser, without the need for complex installations. The PWA of the Palace has audio, photographic and video content, and allows geolocation with wayfinding.

This show focuses on the earliest years of Sorolla’s artistic career, just before he left for Rome at just 21 years old, thanks to the success of El grito del Palleter (The Cry of the Palleter). On a journey through paintings, watercolors, drawings and photographs, we take an analytic look at his career and artistic training from 1878 to 1884, a period in the artist’s work that is relatively unknown and rarely studied. Sorolla. Origins marks the beginning of the 2023 exhibition program celebrating the 100-year anniversary of the death of Joaquín Sorolla.
Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler: dealer and publisher
The exhibition aims to reveal the personality and activity of an exceptional “man of the arts”, as both editor and writer. This thematic tour is laid out chronologically using works by artists from the Kahnweiler galleries, and focuses on the most relevant facets of his existence: the impact of two world wars, his relationship with Germany, the significance of his writings, the evolution of his exhibitions, the part that Picasso played in them, and the role of this extremely reserved and singular man.
